Description of Case: Plaintiff underwent a surgical procedure to correct the cosmetic appearance of her right wrist. Defendant Doctor performed a synovectomy of the MP joint of the right hand, and a resection of the distal ulna and reconstruction of both the radial carpal joint and the ulnar carpal joint. Defendant failed to obtain informed consent prior to performing surgery; and did not explain the potential risks and complications as well as the alternatives to the surgical procedure.
